News at the entrance gate to the Muránska planina national park

The Muránska Planina National Park is visited by more and more people every year, who travel here for untouched nature, history and the popular buzzards. From the most popular starting point - the village of Muráň, they go on hikes to the deep forests of the heart of the plain, to Veľká luka for free-grazing horses - Murán minks, for breathtaking views of the Poludnice cliffs, following the traces of history to the Murán castle or the popular buzzards in the Biele vody area .

However, the growing number of visitors brings not only new business opportunities, but also challenges to solve problems such as parking and public infrastructure. The municipality of Muráň tries to respond to the growing number of visitors every year, and thanks to its efforts, in cooperation with the Regional Tourism Organization Gemer, the Banskobystrica Self-Governing Region (BBSK) and the BBSK Development Agency, it was possible to bring news that will serve all visitors.

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, the mayor of Muráň Ing. met in the village of Muráň with the participation of invited guests. Roman Goldschmidt, vice-president of the Banskobystrica self-governing region Mgr. art. Roman Malatinec and director of OOCR Gemer Ing. Jaroslav Hric to jointly present news in the development of tourism.

They were the first to jointly put into use a cyclonic charger for electric bicycles located near the square in the village of Muráň. The bicycle charger is located in the courtyard of the Muránské buchiet shop, which allows visitors to taste this legendary regional specialty while waiting for their electric bicycle to be charged.

At the same time, they jointly baptized a new tourist guide to the most beautiful routes in the Gemer Region, which presents the most beautiful of our nature.

"Gemer resonates mainly with themes such as Gothic churches or monuments connected with mining, but the unique natural sites that can be found here are still little known. We can find completely unique places not only in the Gemera national parks - on the Muránská planina and in the Slovak Karst. Together with the staff of the national parks, as well as local experts of these locations, we selected the most interesting ones, and with this publication we also invite tourists to get to know the nature of our region," explained the executive director of OOCR GEMER Ing. Jaroslav Hric.

Subsequently, the delegation moved to the new parking spaces above the municipal office, which are already in full use and serve tourists to park their cars directly at the beginning of the tourist route to the castle and the beginning of the path to the buzzard meadow in the Biele vody area. The construction of 15 parking spaces was achieved thanks to the development plan "Safe parking under Muráň Castle with an access path to the Biele vody educational site" in the total amount of €18,282.00, which was supported by the membership contribution of the BBSK Development Agency through OOCR Gemer in the amount of 9898. €00. "The remaining funds were provided by the municipality from its own budget. Last year, we managed to build another parking area near the entrance to the educational trail to Murán Castle, where ten cars can be parked. I know that it is not much, but we are gradually trying to improve the quality of services for visitors to our village and the surrounding nature" - added the mayor of Muráň Ing. Roman Goldschmidt.

"First of all, I want to thank you for being able to be here in Gemer, I know Gemer both culturally and historically, I am aware of the values of its natural heritage and what we make available to the general public. Regarding the economy, development and tourism, we can contribute with tourism to help the people in the region, to create opportunities for them to develop business and expand services, and most importantly, we want to make the time of the visitors of this region more enjoyable, to show the past glory of Gemer in that historical context and showed the natural heritage" - stated the vice-president of the Banskobystrica self-governing region Mgr.art. Roman Malatinec.

The village of Muráň as well as its surroundings has a wide tourist offer that will charm many a visitor. Beautiful nature, history, horseback riding, hiking or cycling, all of this awaits you when you visit the undiscovered region of Gemer.
