Ochtiná aragonite cave

The Ochtiná aragonite cave is a unique natural creation in the world. It attracts every visitor with its diversity and beauty of aragonite decoration, reminiscent of fragile corals.

There are only four to public accessible aragonite caves in the world - one in Mexico, the other in Argentina, third in Czech republic and the most beautiful one of them, the Ochtiná Aragonite Cave in Slovakia. Three generations of aragonite were found in the cave. The age of the first is estimated at an incredible 138,000 years!

It was discovered by chance during the excavation of a geological exploration tunnel in 1954. With its richness and diversity of forms of aragonite filling, it ranks among the most valuable aragonite caves in the world. Thanks to which it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List in 1995.
