Production of traditional embroidery in Malohont region

Traditional folk embroidery is characterized by color, richness of techniques, patterns and ornamental compositions. Embroidery was a dominant decorative element on folk clothing and one of the signs of regional distinction. Textile products with traditional embroidery include not only folk clothing, but also miniatures of folk costumes and gift items.

Gabriela Medveďová from Hrachovo has been producing them for over 5 years. She was fascinated by traditional motifs, thanks to which she tries to preserve folk culture through costumed dolls, folk clothes and gift items with typical colors and ornaments.

The folk costume for the dolls is decorated with hand embroidery - cross stitch technique, stem and chain stitch originating from Klenovec, Kokava nad Rimavicou and the surrounding area. Folk clothing also has hand embroidery with cross, stem and chain stitch, but in the shape of a flower of different colors, typical of the Gemer-Malohont region. She sews textile gift items, such as lavender bags and pockets, from linen material with typical regional embroidery on the front.

Gabriela Medveďová is one of the first holders of the Gemer-Malohont regional product brand.
