Čertova dolina - Devil´s Gorge

Set off from the Zbojská saddle along the Jakub Surovec Educational Trail, which also includes a secured path through the Čertova dolina gorge.

The footpath leading through the Furmanec stream is equipped with belaying fixed ropes and iron risers, which make moving through the valley more attractive and safer.

Similar to the Slovak Paradise, here you can also admire the interesting karst relief, massive rock cliffs and small waterfalls. The narrowest point of the gorge, which is considered the most beautiful part of the reserve, is called Surovcov stisk. This name was given after the legendary Tisovo bandit Surovec, who was said to have once raced through the ravine, running away from the drakes, whose clumsy legs, unaccustomed to the demanding, difficult-to-pass terrain, could not compete with him in any way.

Attention, the movement along the secured road through Čertová dolina is exclusively one-way in the direction from bottom to top!

We recommend sturdy hiking shoes and gloves for its crossing.

Entry is permitted only at the visitor's own risk. We do not recommend it for people under 6 years of age.

Before entering the valley, it is mandatory to follow the operating rules listed on the information panel.

In the past, the valley was passable only for more skilled visitors, as deposits of driftwood often made it impossible to pass through. In 2020, with the financial support of the Banská Bystrica self-governing region, the Association of Municipalities of the Muránska Planina Microregion, the Muránska Planina – Čierny Hron Partnership and the Regional Tourism Organization Gemer, the reconstruction of the path through Čertova dolina was carried out.
