Educational trail of small bats

Above the village of Rákoš, directly behind the game reserve, the path of small bats begins with an entrance gate made of agate wood. It copies the yellow-marked tourist route from Rákoš to Železník Hill. The first info panel discusses woody plants in general.

After a few tens of meters, you will come to another information board and secured mining works, which hide 7,000 colonies of rare bats!

You can observe them during spring and autumn evenings, when they fly out of the mines. From September to mid-November (or the arrival of the first frosts), they intensively hunt for food and create reserves of fat that will allow them to survive the winter season.

With another ascent, you will reach the highest point of the educational trail - to the former milier, a place where charcoal is burned, where there is also another board, which describes the history of coal mining in our territory. From there, along the old coal mine road, past the fence of the game park and information panels about mushrooms, birds, and water, it descends into the valley of the Rakyš stream, back above the village of Rákoš, where it also hides rare frescoes from the 14th century. The most famous of them depicts God with three faces and four eyes!late Romanesque church

For those who still want to paint, they can choose to explore the remains of Rákoš Castle, which can be reached in half an hour, following the green marked tourist route leading past the church.

Be sure not to miss the nearby Rákošská Baňa. In addition to the interesting exposition, you will see mining tools, tools, samples of minerals, period documents and photographs showing the vibrant life and importance of the site in the past. A visit to the museum must be booked in advance.  Mining exposure

For beautiful views but also history, it is worth going up the serpentines above the village of Sirk, to the mining settlement of Železník. Today, a quiet place in the middle of nature, once a busy mining settlement, in which they had the first cinema, dance hall, or bowling alley, the remains of which you can admire today. Also go to the newly renovated miner's chapel or the revitalized pond and experience the Genius loci of the place.
