From Muránska Huta to the third highest castle in Slovakia

Our route starts at the Bobačka waterfall (Hutnícky waterfall) hidden at the bus stop above the village of Muránska Huta. From there we walk a few meters along the road towards Muráň, from which we turn right into the forest following the red markings. In the initial half hour, we overcome an elevation gain of 200 meters until we reach the asphalt road, which we continue to the left. After 1 km we go out to a large plateau. With a little luck, we will see a view known from westerns, running or free-grazing semi-wild horses, Noric horses. We walk through the beautiful natural scenery of the Great Meadow to its opposite end. Here, at the Piesky crossroads, we choose the blue route, which will take us to the cottage under Murán Castle within half an hour. From here, especially in winter, the ascent to the castle gate, which enters the area of the third highest castle in Slovakia (930 m above sea level), can be taken slightly.

Our steps lead to the southwestern viewpoint, from which the well-known rock cliff Cigánka obscures the view of the village of Muráň. But the view on the right replaces it, on the steep slopes of the southern edge of the plain. In the large area of the castle you can enjoy two more viewpoints. From one of them to the depths of the valley and to the rising city of Revúca, from the other to the eastern part of the plain and the majestic King's staff. We return back around Chata pod hradom, from where after 200 meters we change direction to the right and follow the yellow markings. In the introduction we look into the bowels of Wesselényi Cave. During the next 3500 m, the footpath traverses the ridge almost along the contour, without the numerous limestone promontories that need to be bypassed up and down. The contrast of the landscape is amazing. On the other side, we walked this ridge through a wide meadow among conifers and there is a deciduous forest in a steep limestone wall. The whole area is a nature reserve Šiance. After about 70 minutes we leave the forest in the saddle Predná Hora. From here, it is only a short section leading to our road and finish today, mostly on the road. Therefore, take care of your safety.

Our TIP : You can also go to the castle on electric bicycles from the village of Muráň. They will be happy to lend them to you at the municipal bicycle rental. It can be reached on foot along the red hiking trail. The ascent with an elevation of 555 m takes 80-100 minutes, depending on the condition.
