In our towns and villages, there are today, only a few older wiremen. One of them is Mr. Bútora from little village Drienčany.

The frescoes of the Ochtiná church also depict non-traditional motifs, such as the Apocalyptic beast or the depiction of St. Trinity in the form of a head with three faces. Their author was given the epithet Master of the Presbytery of Ochtiná.

The plastic rendering of the halos of the apostles on the paintings of the Kameňany church is the most elaborate among the so far known medieval frescoes in Slovakia.

The church is situated in a fortified area on a hill above the village. In the presbytery we can find scenes of the Last Judgment and relatively well-preserved frescoes of St. Barbara and St. George wrestling with a dragon. On the north side of the nave, an extensive depiction of the Ladislav legend from 1370 has been preserved. The paintings were only discovered in the 1950s.

The Koceľovce paintings represent the largest continuous painted area of its kind among all Gemer churches. The most remarkable frescoes include the scene of the Crucifixion and the Entombment, where the painter managed to masterfully depict the deep sorrow and pain of the three Marys from the death of Jesus.

On the walls of the interior of the Brezovo church you will find many unusual scenes, such as the blessing angel and St. Bartholomew carrying his own skin on his shoulder. The frescoes come from the 14th century and the workshop of the Master of the Presbytery of Ochtiná. In 2014, research brought new discoveries of wall paintings.

One of the most complex examples of Gothic art, combining the architecture of the 13th century, with wall paintings of the 14th century and a carved wing altar from the workshop of Master Pavol from Levoča from the beginning of the 16th century.

The church represents one of the most valuable examples of medieval wall painting in Slovakia.

With an inner diameter of 11 meters, the Rotunda of St. Margaret of Antioch is the largest Romanesque rotunda of its kind in Slovakia and throughout Central Europe. Like many Gemer Gothic buildings, the interior of the rotunda is decorated with rare frescoes.

The Karol blast furnace in Vlachovo is among the technical monuments that are considered rare on a global scale. The building from 1870 documents the historical technology of producing pig iron on charcoal.

An indescribable experience for visitors is a ride on a historical steam train every year. Lovers of history and nature will enjoy themselves.

The city park Zoltánka - an English garden full of rare foreign trees - is worth a visit. The most remarkable are two 350-year-old plane trees. On the outskirts of the city you will find the unique natural phenomenon Morské oko - a natural crater with a diameter of 60 meters, under which there is a 38-meter deep flooded chasm.

The Turecká educational trail is devoted to mining and forestry topics. There are 20 educational boards along the path. The highest point of the educational trail is the Turecká peak (954 m above sea level).

Enjoy a new view of Revúca, or the steep cliffs of the Muránská plain from the arcade of the Evangelical church in Revúca.

The inconspicuous village under the rock cliff Cigánka is one of the most visited places on Gemer. The ruins of the once famous Muráň castle, shrouded in many legends and fables, proudly rise above the village. Behind the village in the direction of Predná Hora, you can observe ground squirrels in the wild at close range.

Discover one of the peaks of the Vrchárský crown Gemera nad Rožňavský Bystrým.

The third highest Slovak castle is also the most visited in the region. It offers breathtaking views of the surroundings, Kráľova hoľa peak and the untouched nature of Muráň plateau.
